We recently celebrated achieving a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating in our November 2022 inspection. The improvement in progress 8 scores from 2019 to 2022 indicates we are the most improved school in Gateshead and among the top 10% of schools for improvement in the Northeast of England.
We provide an exceptional programme of CPD for staff. We know this through staff surveys and our exceptionally low levels of staff turnover. Many staff who have left us have gone on to promoted positions. Staff are happy here; Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a good place to work. We are looking to recruit a skilful, passionate, and dynamic technician for our science department. You will be committed to transforming the life chances of our students. You will be passionate about raising the achievement of all students, particularly the disadvantaged, including those with SEND. You will be keen to learn and develop further, through collaboration with others, and through whole school and departmental CPD.
You will contribute to the development of an excellent standard of practical lessons within the science department. You will help raise the achievement of our students through increasing the quality of practical science provision in the classroom, ensuring student progression by assisting teachers to engage students through practical science work.
We also expect the candidate to be someone who will share good practice to enhance the learning experience of all students. We believe that staff can learn from their peers at all levels, and we operate a professional learning group approach to sharing good practice across the academy.
We are looking for science technician with the capability to assist the science department to provide an excellent quality of education for our students, and with the capacity to develop further.

We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor join our dynamic and forward thinking Academy. Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is oversubscribed, successful and well regarded by parents and the community.
- To supervise students and their work during periods of short-term teaching absence and provide high quality cover. The role involves taking sole charge of a group of students.
- To supervise classes across the curriculum (KS3 and KS4) following a programme of study. To actively engage with the class and follow all classroom procedures as per the classroom teachers’ instructions.
- Recording and reporting attendance of students in accordance with academy policy.
- Supervising entry and departure of students in accordance with academy policy.
- To cover in Year Bases in the absence of the Deputy Head of Year to provide a point of contact for parents and students throughout the day and deal with pastoral issues as they arise.
- To cover in the Inclusion Centre in the absence of one of the Inclusion Centre staff to provide continuity to the provision, working with the other staff member to supervise the students and help maintain a calm and productive environment.
- Contribute to raising standards by providing support to departments and the whole academy. To assist with student intervention as directed.
- During periods when cover is not needed, work under the direction of the line manager, to provide support in the following areas: exam invigilation, support for SEN students, assist year bases, administration support and any other appropriate duties.
- Undertaking and participating in any training as and when required.
- The post holder will undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post, in consultation with the line manager.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and parents/carers.
- Follow academy policies, practices and procedures.
- In conjunction with the line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up to date with research and developments related to academy efficiency.
- Maintain a professional portfolio of evidence to support the performance management process – evaluating and improving own practice.
- Attend relevant academy meetings, to include staff briefings, head of department meetings, departmental and others as required by the line manager.
The Application

In this letter you should outline the core beliefs which shape your approach to teaching and learning and the impact you have had on the practice of other teachers. In essence, we want to know what you can offer our academy and our students.
The Interview
Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email/phone as soon as possible.
The interview will be designed to give candidates every possible opportunity to demonstrate their strengths. It will certainly include an element of interactive work with students which will be signalled clearly in the letter inviting candidates for interview, you will also be given a tour of the academy.

The SEND Department consists of an Assistant Principal SENDCo, a Deputy SENDCo and 11 HLTAs/TAs with active responsibilities for an area of SEND. This department is professional, forward thinking, and flexible in meeting our students’ needs both in and out of the classroom.
To be considered for this post you must have a good education background to GCSE equivalent or above and meet higher level Teaching Assistant standards or equivalent qualification (NVQ Level 4/5). We are looking for a HLTAwith the capability to provide an excellent range of support for our students, and with the capacity to develop further.
