Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre is located on the top floor of Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy and comprises an extensive library of reading materials, classroom work areas, private study desks and a fully up to date ICT suite. The LRC is an ideal place for students to complete projects and school work without distraction.

Timetabled Key Stage Three literacy lessons take place in the LRC and provide an excellent opportunity for students to browse the latest books and new resources. Support is available to equip students with the confidence to not only read for pleasure, but to also inspire book choices that will stretch, challenge and grow reading ability.

New books and learning materials are consistently being added to our library and students are encouraged to get involved by making suggestions for new stock and LRC improvements. Activities that enrich the student reading experience and underpin literacy skills are scheduled regularly across the year and include spelling bees, author visits, writing workshops, ‘Drop Everything and Read’, World Book Day celebrations, book swaps, featured authors and book promotions.

The Learning Resource Centre operates extended hours throughout the academic year.

Our opening times are as follows:

Monday to Thursday8.15am to 4.15pm
Friday8.15am to 4.00pm
